A portfolio's job is to answer one question: can this person finish work I can trust? For AI video creators, that means showing finished videos with sound, context, and visible process: not folders of disconnected generations.
Fewer pieces, fully finished
Three complete videos outperform thirty impressive clips. Each piece should have a beginning, middle, and end; clean sound; and captions or voice. Clients and employers pattern-match unfinished work to unreliable delivery, fairly or not.
Show the process, not just the output
For each piece, include a short breakdown: the brief, the shot plan, the hardest consistency problem, and how you solved it. Process notes demonstrate judgment: the thing clients pay for: and differentiate you from everyone showing raw generations.
- The brief or goal in one paragraph
- Shot plan or storyboard excerpt
- One problem you solved, with before/after
- Tools used and time spent (honest numbers)
Frame range without sprawling
Three pieces can show range if chosen well: one narrative short, one commercial or explainer style, one experimental or stylistic piece. That covers storytelling, client-applicable craft, and taste: everything a viewer needs to say yes.
